Duplicate Suppression - Listing Portals
You have the option to suppress duplicates in many listing portals.
This does not happen automatically, but must be confirmed manually by the user. The reason for this is that it must be ensured that the duplicate is actually a duplicate entry of the company and not a similar entry of a third company.
This is how it looks in Markee:
Overview of the possible status messages
- Duplicate - not available: This entry is no longer available on the portal
- Duplicate - deleted: This entry has been marked as deleted on the portal
- Duplicate - Suppressed: This entry has been marked as a duplicate on the markee and has been successfully suppressed and redirects to the correct entry
- Suppression requested: This entry is in process and will be suppressed shortly
- Duplicate - possible duplicate: This entry is a possible duplicate - please check this
Process:
As soon as the entry is suppressed, the portals redirect the "duplicate entry" to the entry managed by the listing. This means that if you click on the "Show" button in the duplicate check, the duplicate entry will still be called up. If you then compare the URLs of the two entries (listing and duplicate), you will see that they are identical.
Validation
Suppression requests are checked by Yext and/or the publisher to determine if they are duplicates of an existing listing. Do not use this function to suppress listings that are not duplicates of an existing listing. Use "ignore" here.
Ignore option: The Markee user ignores the duplicate -> the "Deleted" status in Markee appears + in Yext the duplicate is no longer displayed.
Duration of suppression processing on the portal
The verification usually takes no longer than 24 hours. After that, the suppression is applied immediately on many websites. On other websites, this process can take up to a week or longer.
Result
Suppression removes the listing from the publisher's search results. In most cases, there is a redirect of the URL of the suppressed listing to the correct listing. However, sometimes the new content is displayed under the old URL or an error is returned.
